To say there have been a few errors at Elland Road and with Leeds United over the last few years would be an understatement.

It is a frustrating time being a Leeds United fan, who have seen manager after manager come and and go in the last few seasons, and a maverick owner who has had more than his fair share of controversy.

Leeds United are a huge football club, with a huge fanbase, and a rich history. The club arguably deserve more than mid table Championship mediocrity but, the club is where it is for a reason, and only hard work and organisation will get them promoted back to the big time.

To look at the last five years and just pinpoint three mistakes is hard to do, as plenty of Leeds fans will have their own opinions of what has gone wrong, and the likelihood is that there is more than just three things to look at.

FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look here though, and identifies THREE key mistakes of the last five years at Leeds United...

Massimo Cellino

Is there really anywhere else to start? The whole Cellino error has been riddled with managers, poor players, and off the field controversy.

The Italian owner has brought more bad than good to the club in the eyes of many fans, with his odd superstitions, sacking of managers after giving them no time at all, not to mention his tarnished reputation in Italy due to numerous alleged illegalities.

There was the whole 'sick six' debacle, which Cellino is accused of orchestrating, and all in all, certain things have gone off which you just do not want at your football club.

There are calls for Cellino to relinquish his ownership of the club, although it is not all bad, as he has actually backed Garry Monk significantly in the summer transfer window.

However, there is no question the club would be better off without Cellino at the helm. There are more things which I could probably go into more detail about, but I think the Leeds faithful know all about these failures and will happily discuss them!

Unproven managers and rash sackings

Redfearn is set to be sacked from Leeds United

If there is one thing that owner Massimo Cellino has excelled in, it is the hiring and firing of managers.

From the initial controversy around Brian McDermott and his sacking, to the unusual appointment of non-league manager Darren Hockaday, to the ill fated short reign of Darko Milanic, the club has gone through managers quicker than ever before.

Steve Evans managed to stay put longer than expected, before being harshly got rid of at the end of last season and being replaced by Garry Monk.

Nobody really knows how well Leeds might have done with a bit of stability, with hindsight a wonderful thing. However, surely now Cellino is going to give Monk some time after backing him in the transfer market so much?

Selling young talent

While it can sometimes become inevitable that young talent will need to be moved on when the big clubs come circling, the sales of Lewis Cook and Sam Byram in the last few seasons has been hardly ideal.

While Cook commanded a healthy fee, some Leeds fans believe the fee received for Byram is far below what the club should have recouped for someone of his talent.

Garry Monk has no doubt been given the money from the Cook sale to re-invest, but it does beg the question once more as to what is the point in the youth academies if talent is being sold off so soon.

Leeds fans, what do you think? Agree? What else has gone wrong? Let us know in the comments!
