Bolton have had an indifferent start to the season where they have failed to find any real consistency.

To be realistic, with the turmoil off the pitch in terms of potential administration, staying afloat in the Championship, however in the first month or so of the season, a play-off push looked possible.

This last week has highlighted Bolton’s inconsistency problem more than any, with the Trotters beating Derby at home, but then losing with a poor performance away at Stoke.

Next up for Parkinson’s men is Blackburn at home, in Saturday’s 5:30 kick off. Tony Mowbray’s side travel to Bolton on the back of a disappointing loss to Sheffield United on Wednesday night, so will be looking to put things right.

If Bolton do fancy themselves to climb the table, they should be looking to win these sort of home fixtures.

Here at FLW, we look at THREE selection dilemmas that Parkinson will have ahead of Blackburn…

In the last few games, Phil Parkinson has fluctuated between a 4-4-2 and a 4-2-3-1, with the former being more attacking but less solid when defending.

The 4-2-3-1 with Erhun Oztumer playing in a more advanced role seems the most sensible. The ex-Walsall midfielder can give Josh Magennis some needed support, which he has lacked in recent matches.

Phil Parkinson replaced David Wheater with Marc Wilson for the trip to Stoke in the midweek fixtures. While Wilson is more than competent, the Trotters missed their experienced defender Wheater.

Fans were dismayed at the decision to rest or drop Wheater, with Grounds and Wilson looking poor on the left side of Wanderers defence. For this reason, Wheater probably should return.

Ex-Norwich shot-stopper Remi Matthews has been deputizing for the injured Ben Alnwick of late, but the number one goalkeeper looks set to make a return.

In the two games Matthews has played, he has kept one clean sheet which included an impressive display against Derby, so he may fancy himself to keep the position in between the sticks until Ben Alnwick is fully fit.
