Stoke City have been a second division side for the majority of their existence, so you can easily look back on the last decade or so as a glory era for the Potters.

The Staffordshire club were promoted to the Premier League in 2007/08 after entering that season as a team tipped for a mid-table finish.

They had little resources and no household names, but Tony Pulis and his coaching staff led Stoke to become an established Premier League club, who stayed in the top flight for a decade.

Whilst there, and in the decade before that, Stoke have had many memorable moments - here we list three of those.

Do you agree, or can you think of bigger or better moments from the last two decades? Let us know in the comments section below.

Promotion

With 79 points, Tony Pulis and Stoke City earned a remarkable promotion to the Premier League, after narrowly missing out on a play-off spot the season before.

The standout men of the season were Liam Lawrence and Ricardo Fuller, both of whom hit double figures for the season, as the Potters charged up the English football pyramid, to the Premier League for the first time.

FA Cup run in 2011

Stoke had many memorable moments when in the top flight, but the most memorable was their FA Cup run in 2010/11, where they got to the final.

Matty Etherington starred at Wembley as Stoke destroyed Bolton 5-0, giving them a chance to play in the final.

Manchester City were one step too far for Pulis’ men, who were defeated by a lone Yaya Toure goal. It was still one of the best achievements in the clubs history.

Memorable Pulis scalps

Not a singular moment, but Tony Pulis claimed many huge scalps with his style of football.

The phrase ‘cold night at Stoke’ was coined in this era, as many big teams struggled to cope at the bet365 Stadium, then known as the Britannia Stadium.

Rory Delap’s long throws were the iconic part of that team, as well as some of Peter Crouch’s wonder goals.
