Reading fans have been subject to a rollercoaster of emotions both on and off the pitch in the last five years.

The Reading faithful have seen a few highs among a majority of lows over the past few seasons.

The club is trying to recover from the effects of Anton Zingarevich's catastrophic reign as owner of the club.

A Thai consortium have taken over and things are starting to look brighter but the appointment of Jaap Stam is widely recognised as a gamble which could go very very well or extremely badly.

Reading's prospects this season are unpredictable.

A number of new players have been drafted in, mainly from overseas, and a new manager is trying to implement his style of play. This could pay off and result in promotion but could also backfire and land the Royals in a relegation scrap.

Amid the crushing lows, here are THREE of the BEST things that have happened to Reading FC in the last five years.....

2011/12 season

What a magnificent season this was for Reading fans.

After a three year hiatus in the second tier Reading returned to the Premier League in emphatic fashion after a late surge gazumped high-profile duo Southampton and West Ham.

This season actually started disastrously and the Royals were positioned at 23rd in the table at one stage.

They were also knocked out of both domestic cups in the earliest round but Brian McDermott turned things around and steered them to an unlikely Championship title.

Lower league acquisition Adam Le Fondre was a revelation, firing twelve league goals in his debut season. 17 wins in the last 23 games helped Reading leapfrog West Ham and Southampton and finish top of the league with 89 points.

At this stage, things were looking up and another year in the top flight beckoned but Reading have not yet recovered from getting relegated the following year.

2015 FA Cup run

When Reading travelled to Huddersfield Town for an underwhelming third round FA Cup tie on a cold January Saturday afternoon, not many would have foreseen the journey that lay ahead.

Nick Blackman scored the only goal in a 1-0 away victory in front of less than 8,000 fans as Reading began their unlikely FA Cup run.

Apathy would have continued after drawing Cardiff away in the fourth round but a 2-1 victory over the Welsh outfit - courtesy of a Norwood strike and a Robson-Kanu late winner - meant that Reading would progress to the fifth round. Another Championship club away from home: Derby County.

Robson-Kanu was on the scoresheet yet again and a late Yakubu goal saw Reading through to the quarter finals.

After drawing away to Bradford, Reading comfortably saw off the League One side with a 3-0 victory at the Madejski - the goals were scored by Robson-Kanu, McCleary and Mackie. Reading were off to Wembley where Arsenal awaited them.

After trailing to an Alexis Sanchez goal, Reading equalised in the second half through Garath McCleary and put in a great shift to earn an extra time period.

Heartbreak, however, inevitably followed as Adam Federici inexplicably fumbled a weak Sanchez shot into the goal as the Royals crashed out 2-1 to the Premier League giants.

Nick Hammond's negotiations

Nick Hammond was admittedly not amazing at getting good players in but he managed to sell his players for more than they were worth.

Adam Le Fondre, Nick Blackman and Sean Morrison were all sold for good prices, considering how poor they've all been at their new clubs.

Alex McCarthy at £5m and Aaron Tshibola for £6m are another couple of examples.

Both players weren't poor but Hammond negotiated a higher transfer fee than they were worth.

He left for West Brom in April 2016 so Reading will miss his negotiations and how he got a lot of money for average players.
