With Paul Cook at the helm, Portsmouth definitely look like a club on the ascent, and finally look absolute shoe-ins for promotion from EFL League Two this term.

With remarkable attendances reaching over 15,000 every week, the Fratton Park faithful have endured every single emotion possible in the human body it seems, looking likely for liquidation a number of years ago, to coming agonisingly close to promotion last term.

But this year, you'd have to tip Pompey as favourites to go straight up to League One. With a number of exceptional signings arriving at the South Coast in the summer, the likes of Carl Baker, David Forde, and Milan Lalkovic joining from MK Dons, Millwall, and Walsall respectively.

However, they have only been at the club for a couple of months, so it's hard to really label them as quality signings as they are yet to make an impact at the club.

That being said, here, FLW writer George Harbey, identifies THREE of the best signings that Pompey have made in the past 5 seasons...

Gary Roberts

Gary Roberts

After Paul Cook led Chesterfield to a complete blitz of League Two in the 13/14 campaign, then defying the odds and almost clinching promotion to the Championship the season after that, Roberts was the catalyst of all the Spireites' successes.

Having made 40 appearances for the Blues, netting 12 times and assisting 10 times, the attacking midfielder has lightened up the Fratton turf, and has made a fantastic impact at the club.

The "lower league Zidane", as the rendition of his song goes, has already netted 4 goals this term, and looks to play yet another influential role for Pompey again this time around.

Jed Wallace

After signing from non-league outfit Lewes in 2011, Jed Wallace went on to be a revelation at Fratton Park.

Making 110 appearances for the Blues, at the young age of 22-years-old, Wallace was the shining light in what was a dismal couple of years for Pompey, where he scooped up the Player of the Year award.

Wolves prized away the talented attacking midfielder away from Fratton Park, however remains in a lot of Pompey fans' hearts, as he plays a pivotal role in Walter Zenga's attempted romp to promotion this term.

Christian Burgess

Paul Cook wasted no time in introducing himself at Fratton Park in fine fashion last term, after signing the centre half from Peterborough United last term.

Burgess has gone on to be an unstoppable object at the back for Pompey, making 44 appearances since his arrival from London Road.

If it wasn't for Michael Doyle, Burgess would undoubtedly be captain for Paul Cook's men, however the commanding centre half possesses much needed leadership and experience, of which was lacking last term.

So...what do you make Pompey fans? Would you agree with these three suggestions? Who else would you put on the list? Is this the year Pompey finally go up? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
