The 21st century has seen a number of changes to English football and one of the biggest is the rise of loan deals.

Loan deals are very prominent for clubs, especially those at the bottom end of the Premier League or top end of the Championship.

Nottingham Forest are one of those and the Reds have turned to the loan market very regularly.

These deals have had varying success, with a number of managers coming and going. Coaches join the club and sign their desired players on loan, but new managers aren’t overly impressed and recruit their own players.

Forest are finally looking like promotion candidates in the Championship after a poor period that has seen a number of players pass through the club.

Here, we take a look back on the best loan signings at Forest over the last 20 years.

Dexter Blackstock joined the club on loan in 2009, impressing so much that the Reds signed him up on a permanent deal.

It took just six fixtures on loan and two goals for Forest to decide to sign Blackstock up.

The striker scored 41 league goals in 164 appearances in what was a very good spell with Forest after his initial loan spell.

Radoslaw Majewski joined Forest on a season-long loan in 2009.

He impressed almost straight away and scored with a 30-yard drive against Derby in one of his first games.

His form in the 2009/10 season helped Forest to the play-offs and the club went on to sign him permanently, with another 100 appearances coming before his departure in 2015.

Darren Huckerby joined the club from Manchester City on loan in 2003, and had a short, but sweet, spell at the City Ground.

Huckerby scored five goals in just 11 appearances, having a very big impact at the City Ground and helping Forest to the play-offs.
