The £298k-rated attacking midfielder that needs to be Kenny Jackett’s first signing for Portsmouth

After Pompey finally achieved promotion from League Two after winning the league title, the good times didn’t last for too long, after manager Paul Cook departed the club for Wigan Athletic.

The South Coast club are now extremely close to appointing former Millwall and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett as their new manager, which would be a shrewd appointment to say the least.

Jackett has vast experience in gaining promotion from League One, which will undoubtedly be Pompey’s aim again this year, under new ownership with American businessman Michael Eisner set to takeover at Fratton Park.

A sleeping giant like Portsmouth definitely has the fanbase, the funds and the infrastructure to tempt many high-profile names to sign on at Fratton, and one player who the club should definitely look to reunite with in the summer is Jed Wallace, valued at £298k by Transfermarkt.

Since coming through the youth academy at the club, Wallace was a revelation for Pompey, netting 27 times from midfield in almost 110 appearances for the club; an impressive record for a 23-year old.

He ended his time at Pompey as the club’s top goalscorer with 17 goals in 2014/15, also winning him the club’s Player of the Season Award, therefore he is no stranger to the boisterous Fratton faithful.

The industrious midfielder then moved on to Wolves, then managed under Jackett, for a reported fee of £250,000, however it’s fair to say that his career hasn’t really taken off as he would have hoped at Molineux.

Wallace has made just 18 appearances for the Black Country outfit, which has led to two loan spells at Millwall where he scored a total of 5 goals in 28 appearances, as well as making a fine impression at the Den.

A player of Wallace’s ability and age needs to be featuring regularly week in week out, and with Pompey being a club that he knows like the back of his hands, as well as being a club on the ascent, Jackett should definitely look to lure the versatile midfielder to Fratton Park with in the summer, albeit if he is indeed appointed as the new manager…

So…what do you think Pompey fans? Should Jed Wallace come back to Pompey? Would you be happy if Kenny Jackett is appointed? Leave all of your thoughts in the comments below!
