Nottingham Forest are thought to be keen on doing a deal for Wigan's Gavin Massey in the summer, with the wingers deal up at the Championship club.

The Daily Mail report that the Latics are keen to extend his deal but Forest and QPR are also monitoring the player ahead of picking him up on a free transfer.

Whilst the article claims that Massey wants to stay at the DW Stadium, particularly if Paul Cook's men stay up, the reality is that a move to Forest will also be very appealing if they firm up their interest.

Firstly, this is a player who was playing in League Two for Leyton Orient just a few years ago so he will dream of making it all the way through the leagues and featuring in the top-flight.

And, realistically, Forest give him a much, much better chance of making that happen.

Additionally, as we all know, they are a very big club that have a great history and again that has to be taken into consideration when a player is making a decision.

Martin O'Neill has shown in just a few months that he means business and if he is allowed to really mould the squad in the way he wants over the summer it promises to be an exciting time ahead for the club.

Unfortunately, you can't say the same for Wigan, so even though Massey will have really enjoyed his time at the club and feel a debt of gratitude to them, any chance to move to Forest would be a big step up in his career.
