On-loan Aston Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone looks set to be a busy man this summer, with a whole host of Premier League sides thought to be interested in bringing him back into the top-flight.
Media reports have suggested the likes of Everton and Sunderland are both ready to spend around £3million to bring the Manchester United youngster.
It’s common knowledge that Steve Bruce is slowly but surely swinging things in his favour at the club and there are few people doubting that Villa will be part of the chasing pack next season, when it comes to challenging for the automatic promotion places.
But if they are to seriously get close, they will need to bring in another goalkeeper and there’s a certain Manchester City goalkeeper who we think would be a great addition to the squad.
The man in question? Young Angus Gunn, who has certainly made a better go of it than Joe Hart under Pep Guardiola.
Son of famous keeper Bryan Gunn, the future certainly looks bright for young Angus, who has been tipped to be a future England star by many of City’s academy coaches.
Whilst we’ve not seen much of him in the Premier League this season, he’s been ever-present in City’s development squad and is thought to be progressing seriously well indeed.
But when push comes to shove, he’ll want to be in the first-team over the next couple of years and with some seriously revered international stars ahead of him in the pecking order, he may be forced to look elsewhere in his pursuit of first-team football.
And why not make the switch to Aston Villa, which would be a cracking move at this stage in his career, be it permanent or temporary.
Johnstone has really made a name for himself at Villa Park whilst on loan this season despite a slightly tough start, and he’s shown that if you’re a young English goalkeeper looking to progress, a move to the Midlands wouldn’t be a bad thing in the slightest.
So for around £213,000, this would be a move well worth making by Steve Bruce.
