Boy are these changing times at Birmingham City, and supporters of the Bluenoses will hope the decision to replace hapless Gianfranco Zola with Harry Redknapp wasn't made too late in the day by the hard-to-find Trillion Trophy Asia bosses.

Zola was finally shown the door after a wretched run which saw the club tumble from promotion-chasers to relegation fodder in a matter of months.

Even with a handful of games to go, safety is still not secured and new boss Harry Redknapp still has work to do if his side are to pull away from the drop zone over the next couple of weeks.

But looking ahead to the summer, it's still not clear if Harry will be in charge at St Andrews, having taken on the role initially until the end of the season.

Should he stay in the Midlands though, what could we expect from his own squad, should he get the chance to invest this summer?

Here's the Birmingham City XI we think Redknapp should look to mould, if he stays on next season...

GK: Tomasz Kuszczak

Although Birmingham's defence has been woeful in recent weeks, there is little goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has done wrong as the club has freefalled.

Does Harry really need to change the goalkeeper? Absolutely not.

RB: Emilio Nsue

Emilio Nsue was signed in January by Gianfranco Zola and has shown in spells that he is a very competent player at this level indeed.

Although his defending does need some improvement, offensively he's a very good option indeed and like Kuszczak, he's not a priority that needs changing right now.

CB: Ryan Shotton

Ryan Shotton has been superb for long spells during his time at St Andrews but he's had a poor spell this campaign.

But that doesn't hide the fact he's really led from the back at times in the past and deserves another chance in the side under Harry.

CB: Chancel Mbemba

Chancel Mbemba has had a tough old season at Newcastle United and he's been out of the first-team for the majority of the campaign as defensive partnerships have formed at St James' Park.

He's a quality player at this level and after some financial input in January, Birmingham are expected to spend again this summer. Could they target the Congolese man as somewhat of a marquee signing?

LB: Cheick Keita

Cheick Keita has become a real revelation having signed in January and he's a player that looks to have a seriously bright future ahead at St Andrews.

He's been thrown into the mix following the poor form but he's stepped up well and can only learn from the expansive knowledge Harry Redknapp has to offer.

RM: Kerim Frei

We really haven't seen a lot from Kerim Frei just yet in a Birmingham City shirt and despite the fact he was a Gianfranco Zola signing, he was sparingly used.

He scored a cracking free kick in the disappointing draw against Rotherham last week and Blues fans want to see more. Get him flying and he might be quite the player.

CM: Craig Gardner

Things really haven't been smooth for Craig Gardner since his arrival back at St Andrews and he has a lot to prove if he's to continue getting first-team minutes.

But at the end of the day, he's a player with vast Premier League experience who knows what this club means to the fans. For Harry Redknapp going forward, that should mean a lot.

CM: Niko Kranjcar

Niko Kranjcar has followed Harry Redknapp around during his various spells in England and there's every opportunity the former Spurs man could pitch up at St Andrews this summer, if he leaves Rangers.

Okay, he might not be in his heyday anymore but he's a player who has real skill and will certainly have something to offer at this level.

LM: Kazenga LuaLua

With Jacques Maghoma really going off the boil over the past couple of months, the left-hand side of midfield is where we could see some real change this summer.

And one man that has been very good at this level for a couple of years now is Kazenga LuaLua, who is currently on-loan at QPR from Brighton.

But with the Seagulls now in the Premier League, he might have to search for a new club this summer, which could open the path to a move to St Andrews.

ST: Che Adams

Che Adams hasn't had his strongest season but if Birmingham can keep hold of him come the end of the season, there are plenty of supporters that feel the best is yet to come from the former Sheffield United man.

He's pacy, has good movement and does know where the back of the net is. Under Harry Redknapp, could we find hints of a player that Gary Rowett certainly when he brought him to the club?

ST: Lukas Jutkiewicz

Lukas Jutkiewicz is an honest striker who will probably be the first to admit that he hasn't had the strongest second half of the season.

One goal in ten isn't good enough in the slightest but as we saw when he first signed, he's certainly got goals in him and he's the sort of striker Harry Redknapp loves.

Give him a chance and he might start to shine once more.
