When Birmingham City opted to appoint Pep Clotet as their caretaker head coach, the club's supporters would have had every right to be slightly concerned by this decision.

Having never managed at Championship level before, the jury was out on whether the 42-year-old would be a worthy successor to Garry Monk who was given his marching orders by the Blues' hierarchy in June.

Yet since Clotet was handed over the reins at St Andrew's, he has helped the club achieve a relative amount of success in the Championship during the opening months of the 2019/20 campaign.

As well as securing impressive victories over the likes of Charlton Athletic and Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham have also picked up points when they haven't been on top-form.

However, it could be argued that their away record is holding them back in the Championship.

Since beating Brentford on the opening day of the season at Griffin Park, the Blues have lost six of their last seven games on their travels.

With Birmingham set to face Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium on November 23rd, Clotet will be determined to solve their away day woes.

Yet in order to have the best chance of securing a positive result against the Terriers, it could be argued that the Blues may need to make an alteration in the goalkeeping position.

Following a number of unconvincing performances from Lee Camp during the early stages of the season, the shot-stopper's glaring error in the club's 1-0 defeat to Fulham last Saturday may be the last straw for Clotet.

If the former Oxford United boss is considering dropping Camp, he could look to David Stockdale for inspiration in the club's clash with Huddersfield.

Since joining Birmingham in 2017 on a free transfer, the 34-year-old has experienced mixed fortunes at St Andrew's.

Despite featuring on 39 occasions for the Blues in the 2017/18 campaign, he was loaned out by the club to Coventry City last season after losing his place to Camp.

Limited to just one appearance this year, Stockdale will be determined to prove his worth to Clotet over the coming months with his contract set to expire next summer.

Having played 232 games at Championship level during his his career, the former Fulham man knows exactly what it takes to succeed in this particular division.

Therefore, providing that he is given the nod to start by Clotet, it would not be at all surprising if Stockdale produces an eye-catching display against Huddersfield later this month.
