After a disasterous opening few months of the campaign which could have seen the back of Kenny Jackett, Portsmouth are in the thick of the League One promotion race heading into the final 11 games of the season.

Only four victories from their first 14 league matches left Pompey sitting 15th in the standings, but just five defeats since then has seen Jackett's men put themselves into a great position to finish in the top-two, despite collecting just one point from their last two games.

It's generally been a solid campaign for the South Coast outfit, but we look at TWO moments that Pompey fans will want to forget this season.....

Accrington Stanley defeat

Portsmouth arrived in Lancashire on a seven-match unbeaten run, against an Accrington side that were only five points above the relegation zone, with the majority inside the Crown Ground that afternoon fully expecting a comfortable away victory.

However, Stanley certainty didn't read the script and responded superbly to Ronan Curtis' 34th minute strike as John Coleman's men scored four times in the final 46 minutes to condemn Pompey to their heaviest league defeat since they were humbled 5-1 at Scunthorpe United back in February 2014.

Portsmouth responded to this defeat with two impressive wins over Ipswich and Wycombe at Fratton Park, but it didn't take anything away from this disasterous afternoon.

Southampton

After impressive victories against Championship opposition in Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers in their opening two rounds, Portsmouth were handed a dream tie against their South Coast rivals in their first meeting for almost seven years.

However, despite a full house at Fratton Park, Southampton's Premier League quality shone through, although their two late goals which gave them a 4-0 victory was slightly harsh on Jackett's side.
