It has been something of a mixed campaign for Blackburn Rovers during the 2019/20 season so far.

Several impressive runs of form have been combined with a number of less positive sets of results to ultimately leave the club's fans feeling a mix of encouragement and frustration at various moments across the season.

As it is however, Blackburn are still currently tenth in the Championship table, three points adrift of the play-off places with nine games of the season still to be played at some point.

That is at least something that provides grounds for optimism around Ewood Park, given the progress it shows following their first season back in the second-tier last year, after spending the 2017/18 campaign in League One.

Even so, there have still been moments of disappointment throughout the course of the campaign for Rovers, and here, we take a look at the two worst moments of their season to date.

The second-half collapse at Preston

It had all started so well for Blackburn at local rivals Preston back in early October.

A Declan Rudd own goal had given Rovers the lead inside a minute, before Sam Gallagher doubled their advantage just ten minutes later, with his first league goal since returning to the club in the summer transfer window.

That however, was a lead Blackburn would be unable to hold onto after the break, with Christain Walton flapping at a cross to allow Tom Barkhuizen to pull one back for the hosts, before Daniel Johnson levelled from the spot after Elliott Bennett brought down Alan Browne in the area, with Barkhuizen then completing the turnaround with a brilliant curling effort with less than ten minutes of the game remaining.

It was a result that made it six games without a win for Blackburn, leaving them just three points clear of the relegation zone at the time, with manager Tony Mowbray coming in for some heavy fire, which won't have been helped by the self-destructive nature of his side's defeat here.

Bradley Dack's injury

An hour into Blackburn's local derby with Wigan Athletic on the 23rd December, Bradley Dack went in for a challenge with Latics captain Sam Morsy out on the touchline, and was left on the ground screaming in agony.

After several minutes of treatment on the pitch, Dack was stretched off and while the game would slowly play out as an otherwise uneventful goalless draw, the thoughts of those associated with Rovers were understandably elsewhere.

As it would transpire, that challenge with Morsy had seen Dack tear his anterior cruciate ligament, an injury that it has been suggested could keep him out of action for between nine and 12 months.

Not only is that a devastating blow for Dack himself, but the influence of their top scorer in each of the last two seasons has also been a major miss for Rovers themselves, who have at times missed the creative spark and finishing instinct their talisman provides, making you wonder just where they might be now had they still had him available.
