Leeds United's squad has key areas that need to be improved for next season.

This has been a disappointing season for the Whites because they haven't successfully challenged for the play-offs like the fans and the board envisaged at the start of the season.

That led to Thomas Christiansen being sacked, but Paul Heckingbottom hasn't been able to do any better which suggests that the squad has unresolved issues holding them back.

They have structural issues which are best represented by the players who are chosen to be the first-team choices for that role.

Therefore, this article focuses on the players who haven't been good enough for Leeds this season, and the positions they play in need to be improved in the summer transfer window.

Here are the two players who have underperformed...

Lasogga has acted as the chief goalscorer for the team on loan from Bundesliga side Hamburg. He has 10 goals from 28 games which isn't good enough for a team aiming for the top six. The other striking options have been worse, in his defence, because Caleb Ekuban has one goal in 15 games, Jay-Roy Grot has one goal in 17 games and Pawel Cibicki is yet to score after 7 appearances.

Leeds were performing a lot better last season and it's no coincidence that they had Chris Wood as their main goalscorer. He scored 27 goals in 44 games, and they have sorely missed his goals this season.

This is an area that they need to address for next season and they need to aim for proven quality rather than gambling on a bargain because it is a key area. Whether they have actually altered their transfer strategy will be shown in who they decide to bring in for this role.

O'Kane hasn't performed well this season even though he has played 31 games in the league. He has been one of the main option for the central midfield roles alongside Kemar Roofe and Kalvin Philips.

They have plenty of influential attacking midfielders, but they are structurally weak due to their deficiencies in this area which has made them easy to break down when playing teams of a similar or higher quality.

The Irish midfielder is prone to mistakes, so they need to replace him and partner that player with either Philips or Ronaldo Vieira because they have both impressed even though they are young.
