What a fall from grace Sunderland have experienced within the past twelve months.

Having appeared regularly in the Premier League, the Blacks Cats finally fell from the division having flirted with relegation for many years, and it now looks increasingly likely that a second successive drop could be on the cards.

The Wearsiders have failed to improve under new boss Chris Coleman following the sacking of Simon Grayson, with the former Wales boss struggling to find the right formula at The Stadium of Light.

Whatever happens at the end of the season, Coleman has a huge task of assembling a squad capable of competing at any level of the English game, and must begin his summer overhaul by shifting this pair from the club’s books…

It is unbelievable how much money the club has haemorrhaged by having Jack Rodwell on their books.

A huge transfer fee, astronomical wages, the former wonderkid has simply failed to live up the hype that had once seen him branded as the successor to Steven Gerrard in the England midfielder, and the player’s career at the top of the game is all but over.

Sunderland nearly shifted Rodwell out in January, but a trial with Dutch side Vitesse was cancelled at the last minute.

Rodwell simply has to go, and fans surely cannot wait for the moment when he finally ends his draining spell on the club’s finances.

Another big earner failing to pull his weight, it is time for Cattermole to depart after failing to perform to the required level in the second tier this season.

The midfielder is supposed to be a leader within this Black Cats side, but has so far simply been more of a hindrance in their fight for survival.

Another who appears more interested in picking up a paycheck than events on the field, fans will not be disappointed to see the well paid man leave in the summer, as Coleman must attempt to balance the books whatever division the club find themselves in.
