Sheffield Wednesday secured a vital win against Yorkshire rivals Leeds last time out to ease any relegation fears that they may have had.

However, it still can't hide what has been a very disappointing and frustrating campaign for all connected with the club.

After successive top six finishes, many expected the Owls to be challenging for promotion once again under Carlos Carvalhal but the side were languishing in the bottom half when he was sacked in December.

Since Jos Luhukay's appointment things haven't got much better, although in fairness to both managers they had to contend with a ridiculous injury list that has robbed them of almost all their key men.

Yet, given their struggles, Wednesday may find it tough to convince some of their better and more promising players to stay at Hillsborough next season.

Here we look at two players who could be playing in the Premier League next season...

The Scottish playmaker made his first appearance since Decemeber at Elland Road on Saturday and fans will be delighted that he is back.

Prior to his injury, Bannan was one of few Owls players who could come away with any credit this season, impressing from midfield.

With his technique, passing range and intelligence, the former Aston Villa man could be a good player for sides in the bottom half of the top-flight.

Reports have emerged over the past few weeks that Everton and Tottenham are tracking the Wednesday youngster who only came into the first-team picture under Luhukay.

Worryingly, Clare is out of contract in the summer with Wednesday yet to tie the 21-year old down to a long-term deal.

He has impressed with his pace and drive from midfield and made a real difference to the side when he played.

Unfortunately he looks set to miss the remainder of the season through injury and fans will hope they haven't seen the last of him in an Owls shirt.
