It was a disappointing 2016/17 season for Norwich City supporters as the club struggled to compete amongst the league's elite.

After a bright start to the campaign which saw the Canaries firmly within the top six race, what was then Alex Neil's side dropped off and slipped down the table in a horrific run of form.

The side dropped points and lost a sizeable amount of away games which really damaged their play-off hopes.

Alex Neil lost his job in the new year as he failed to properly turn the Canaries' form around as they continued to put in poor performances, and eventually completely end their hopes of a top six finish.

Alan Irvine has taken temporary charge since Alex Neil's departure, and a permanent manager has not yet been appointed, however squad changes have already been made.

As Norwich look to compete for promotion next season, seven first team players have been released including Steven Whittaker, John Ruddy and Youssouf Mulumbu.

Here are TWO signings that would enhance the Norwich side this summer...

Cyrus Christie

Cyrus Christie joined Derby in 2014, and has gone on to make over 100 league appearances for the Rams, becoming their first choice right back for the majority of his time with the club.

However, Derby are looking to offload the dead weight from their squad and after a fairly poor 2016/17 season in which Christie underperformed for most of the season as well as being injured for a few months, he could be axed from the Rams squad.

Despite a poor season in general for Derby, the Republic of Ireland international could be an ideal replacement for departing right back Steven Whittaker at Carrow Road.

Christie does offer power and pace down the wing and could perform in a side like Norwich, which already has the attacking qualities of Alex Pritchard and the Murphy twins.

If Gary Rowett is looking to offload Cyrus Christie, he may come a little cheaper too, and the right back is still just 24 years old so he has plenty of football left in him.

Grant Hanley

Grant Hanley could be on his way out of St James Park this summer, and Norwich City could be an ideal destination for the Scotsman.

It's been reported that Newcastle are willing to sell Hanley, and Championship clubs Derby and Wolves are rumoured to be eyeing a move for him.

The 25-year-old centre back made just 10 league appearances for Rafa Benitez's side as Newcastle won the Championship title, bouncing straight back to the top flight.

If Hanley struggled to break into the Magpies first team in the second tier, the chances are he will play even less in the top flight, so a move away could be his best option this summer.

Norwich have confirmed that central defenders Sebastien Bassong an Ryan Bennett are to leave the club on free transfers this summer, so the Canaries will more than likely be in the market for a centre back.

Grant Hanley is a good defender and has Championship experience, which would make him a good fit at Carrow Road.
