Sheffield Wednesday are having a torrid time at present, having shown some real early season promise.

A surprising climb up the table in September looked to be ushering in a new era, one in which Jos Luhukay placed his faith in youth, rather than experience.

He didn't have a lot of choice, they were under embargo in the summer and his movement in the transfer market wasn't just restricted, it was killed off completely.

Despite that, he promoted several young players to the first team and saw them thrive at first. They've struggled to maintain that early thrust and have since fallen into the bottom half of the table.

Despite the troubles, the performances of some of the young guns will have given Jos Luhukay food for thought. The Dutchman is under pressure and may not see out the season as boss, but the talent within the Wednesday ranks will still be there.

FLW looks at TWO players who could seriously impact them in 2019...

The 19-year old has one Championship start to his name this season, but has shown enough promise to suggest he could kick on.

He would surely benefit from a League One loan spell in January, but with regular football the Scotland Under 19 player could turn into a key player for the Owls in the New Year.

20-year old midfielder Kirby is another who looks set for a bright future at Hillsborough.

He's comfortable on the ball and can pick out a pass on demand.

He's had eight minutes of Championship action this season, but is another who could step up and have an impact.
