Aston Villa have a potential problem defensively after James Chester was forced off with an injury for Wales last night.

The influential defender has been a key player for the club since he arrived at Villa Park and is one of two senior centre-backs at the club.

His partnership with Axel Tuanzebe has given the side a real solid look since Dean Smith was appointed, so his absence would be a big blow for the side.

Whilst the extent of his injury is still unknown, if he is out for a lengthy period it would leave Villa in real trouble.

As mentioned, they are seriously lacking depth at the back and Smith will not want just one senior centre-back as we approach a crucial and busy part of the season.

Therefore, he may consider signing a free agent and here we look at TWO out of contract players that could make an impact...

The experienced centre-back has proven himself to be a very reliable defender over the years at Stoke City and Leicester.

We saw the impact that John Terry had on the side last season and Huth could offer something similar.

He is a towering presence and should be able to fit in straight away into the Villa back four.

Collins is a similar player and would bring a real physicality as well as leadership to the Villa side.

Again, he has proven himself to be a solid performer at a higher level and even at his age now the 35-year-old could do a job.

One concern would be his fitness issues however if he is fit and available he would certainly provide a good option until January at least.
