Derby County have been rocked by the news that Craig Forsyth and Mason Bennett suffered serious injuries in the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The club confirmed the setbacks on their website, with the update on Forsyth particularly bad.

The left-back has damaged his cruciate ligament, the third time he has had such an injury, and whilst the Rams didn't put a time frame on a return, it's sure to end his season.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Bennett, who forced his way into the starting XI against Villa after impressive recent sub appearances, needs to see a specialist for a hamstring injury.

Both players had established themselves as important members of the squad and Frank Lampard will be gutted at losing them for lengthy periods of time.

However, the Chelsea legend does have a big squad to work with and these injuries provide others with a chance to step up.

Here we look at the TWO players who will need to deliver for the side to help sustain their promotion push after the news...

Malone has only shown flashes of his ability since joining from Huddersfield in the summer but will get an extended run in the side now.

He has proven himself at this level in the past, but the fact that Lampard had predominantly used him as a sub suggests he needs to improve aspects of his game.

The former Cardiff man should be capable of filling the hole left by Forsyth, but he needs to be consistent.

Another summer signing - Jozefzoon hasn't done enough since making the move from Brentford.

The quick winger has been inconsistent, although there is fierce competition at Pride Park in the final third.

Yet, Bennett's woes should give the 27-year-old more game time and it's his opportunity to make himself a regular under Lampard.
