Having fallen short in the past few years, Derby County finally look like a side that can secure a Premier League return under the guidance of Gary Rowett.

The former Birmingham City boss has led the Rams to the cusp of the automatic promotion spots, and will be there or thereabouts when the end of the season rolls around.

Assembling an impressive squad consisting of the likes of Tom Lawrence, Tom Huddlestone and Championship top scorer Matej Vydra, a challenge for an automatic spot will have been a minimum expectation at Pride Park, and Rowett is certainly delivering.

Whether the manager is preparing for another year of second tier football or his debut campaign in the Premier League in the summer remains to be seen, but a squad overhaul will be required nonetheless, with this pair sure to be fearing for their futures in the East Midlands…

The 35-year-old has been an excellent addition to the Rams squad since linking up with the side from West Brom in 2015, but with his deal expiring at the end of the season, his time at Pride Park is coming to an end.

Extremely experienced and a worthy squad player, Baird may be beginning to lose his edge as he approaches the end of his career, and competing towards the top of the Championship, or even in the Premier League, may be beyond the well-travelled Northern Irish defender.

His experience and know how will have benefitted Rowett’s side this term, but it is looking increasingly likely that the player will be allowed to move on in the summer.

Fans will be disappointed if Baird does depart, but it appears his time is running out.

The Scottish winger has been a key figure in Derby sides over the past few seasons, but has completely fallen out of favour this term.

Making just a handful of appearances, the time for Anya to depart has come, with clubs in the division certain to pay an interest in bringing the player in in the summer.

His current deal runs until 2020 so the Rams are likely to acquire a fee for his services, but Rowett is unlikely to resist if a reasonable bid were to materialise.

Failing to break into the side in the second tier, Anya has no chance should the club earn promotion in the coming months.
