Frank Lampard's Derby County have made some real ground on the promotion chasing hopefuls in recent weeks, and they can feel hard done by, having been held to a draw at Middlesbrough at the weekend.

The Rams are now unbeaten in five league games, and go into their EFL Cup clash with Premier League giants, Chelsea, full of confidence.

The form shown by the likes of Harry Wilson, Tom Lawrence and Jack Marriott are promising signs of what Lampard's side can do to teams should they hit top form.

Marriott in particular has been in impressive form since he was given his chance in the starting XI for the Rams.

The former Peterborough striker has scored three goals in his last four league appearances and is certainly taking his chances whilst he has a run in the side for the promotion hopefuls.

But could Lampard be tempted to make any additions to his squad in January?

Find out who we think they should sign when the transfer window reopens here....

The 23-year-old has made 11 starts for Preston this season and is a crucial member of their squad.

Pearson would complement the likes of Bradley Johnson well in the Derby side as he is a more defence minded midfielder who would offer stability to the Rams side.

He is likely to command a hefty fee though, with the central midfielder being a key member of Alex Neil's side this season as they look to recover from a poor start.

The Brentford striker has been in excellent form this season and already has 11 goals to his name in 13 appearances for the Bees.

But since Dean Smith's departure from Brentford, Maupay and his team mates have struggled for positive results and have slipped to 16th in the Championship table.

Maupay certainly has the ability to be playing at a higher level and he could be tempted by Derby who are challenging for promotion this season.
