Bolton Wanderers have given a good account of themselves following their promotion to the second tier as runners up last season, with Phil Parkinson’s side well in the mix to survive in their first season back in the Sky Bet Championship.

Several shrewd January additions, including the loan signing of former academy graduate Zach Clough, will convince fans that survival could be possible, and the Trotters simply must continue to pick up points between now and the end of the season.

Battling the likes of Sunderland, Hull City and Barnsley at the bottom of the table, Parkinson know his side face a challenge, but following a solid win over their Black Cat rivals on Tuesday evening at the Macron Stadium, will feel that anything is possible.

Whatever happens, Parkinson will need to reevaluate his squad in the summer to ensure his side remain competitive, with his pair sure to fear for their futures…

The veteran striker was handed a deal at Bolton in the summer following his release from Bristol City, but has failed to play a role on the field this season.

Just a single assist in a plethora of substitute appearances, the player had failed to dislodge Gary Madine from the side before his switch to Cardiff, with other forwards favoured since the top scorer left for South Wales in January.

Wilbraham is likely to have options should he part ways with the Trotters in the summer, but may consider retirement given that he is approaching 40 years of age.

A reliable squad option who has more than likely contributed much off the field, Wilbraham simply does not have the legs for this level anymore.

Another experienced striker, Le Fondre has also struggled to tie down a consistent role in this Bolton side, and may look elsewhere in the summer.

The player has the natural ability to score a lot of goals, but Parkinson may feel that the 31-year-old hasn’t done enough to prove that he can perform in the second tier on a regular basis.

League One and Two sides will queue up to acquire the signature of the forward, but with Bolton looking to build and progress in the coming seasons, Le Fondre simply does not fit into this model.
