Every club will have regrets at the end of the season but more so Nottingham Forest, who have endured one of the worst campaigns in years, and could even end with relegation to the third-tier.

Manager Mark Warburton has got his work cut out ahead of the final round of fixtures this weekend as they welcome Ipswich Town to the City Ground, only a victory would guarantee another twelve months in the Championship.

However, when it comes regrets, I suppose it's an endless list for Forest fans, in my opinion, from signings, managerial changes and at the very top concerning owners.

The club needs a massive overhaul all over if they want to progress.

Focusing on this season, it will mainly concern the playing staff and boss which should have been altered earlier than it occurred.

Here are the TWO biggest regrets Nottingham Forest will have from the dismal and dreary 2016/17 campaign....

Selling Dorus de Vries

I think allowing one of the best players at the club to leave is a fairly dubious decision, and that's exactly what Nottingham Forest did when they decided to sell goalkeeper Dorus de Vries.

The 36-year-old was voted the club's Player of the Season for last campaign, as well as three monthly awards, having featured in all but one fixture for Forest last year following the departure of Karl Darlow to Newcastle United.

With de Vries in such impressive form, it is probably a decision the management team regret making.

Although, perhaps it was the 'keeper who didn't want to remain at the City Ground and opted to join Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Waiting until January to sack the dreadful Philippe Montanier

A lot of mid-table expectancy clubs will wait until half-way through the campaign before assessing their manager but I think it was too late for Nottingham Forest, when they decided to sack Philippe Montanier back in January.

The form was on a downward spiral and the longer he remained in charge the further down the table the team fell - getting rid a month earlier could have saved Forest's season, and meant it would not have to go down to the wire to decide their league status.

Gary Brazil did bring in some stability, although the hierarchy probably see the delayed reaction to sacking Montanier as a regret.
