In what has been a season of mixed fortune, Queens Park Rangers' turbulent season has levelled out with the West London outfit now sitting comfortably in mid-table.

It appears that mid-table mediocrity beckons for the Hoops this season after pulling away from the relegation zone and being too far adrift of the top six to mount a late challenge.

Queens Park Rangers' action-packed season has already seen the dismissal of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and appointment of a familiar face in Ian Holloway - who was a previous player and then manager at Loftus Road.

An enduring marathon like the Sky Bet Championship is always going to throw up a number of surprises and Queens Park Rangers have been involved in some of them.

A rollercoaster season for Queens Park Rangers has seen a series of high moments and low moments that their fans will look back upon with mixed emotions.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen looks at two of Queens Park Rangers' biggest highs and then two of their biggest lows this season so far.

High - Early season form

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink led his side to an excellent opening day victory over Leeds United, which saw Queens Park Rangers come out as convincing winners after a 3-0 victory over the West Yorkshire side.

Then came victories over Wigan Athletic and Cardiff City and this meant that at the end of the first month of the season, Queens Park Rangers were sitting in fifth place in the table.

Three wins out of their first five games and a victory over Swindon Town in the EFL Cup meant that Queens Park Rangers were one of the most in-form Championship sides in the early stages of the season.

At that point, Queens Park Rangers appeared to be one of the potential contenders for a play-off place if they could maintain their early season form.

Queens Park Rangers' early season form was one of the biggest highs of the season so far, even though they were unable to continue that fine form and gather momentum.

High - Ian Holloway

After Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink vacated the managerial position at Queens Park Rangers, a number of high profile managers were linked with the job, however, it was vastly experienced manager Ian Holloway who took over.

With fears of relegation, Ian Holloway was brought in to manage the squad and provide a level of stability and consistency which had been lacking prior to his arrival.

With strong performances including an excellent win against Reading and a very respectable draw against Newcastle, Queens Park Rangers pulled away from the relegation zone.

Under Ian Holloway's management, Queens Park Rangers are relatively safe as they currently sit in 16th place in the Championship with a nine point cushion above the relegation zone.

The appointment of Ian Holloway will be one of the biggest highs this season as it could be seen as the moment which turned around Queens Park Rangers' fortune and season.

Low - QPR 0-6 Newcastle

In what has been a Premier League encounter in the past, the match between Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers was a humiliating low point for those of a blue and white persuasion.

Newcastle romped to victory as Jonjo Shelvey scored a brace with Ayoze Perez, Ciaran Clark, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Grant Hanley also getting on the score sheet.

After dropping back down to Championship, some my have expected QPR to bounce back up, however, the symbolic nature of the defeat showed that Queens Park Rangers are far away from competing at the top of the second tier.

To lose by such a margin at Loftus Road was a humiliating experience for the West London side - although the size of the defeat was displeasing, the manner of it was extremely worrying.

As Queens Park Rangers heaviest defeat of the season, it was also one of the biggest lows of the season so far for Queens Park Rangers.

Low - QPR 1-2 Burton

Another damaging home defeat saw Burton Albion pick up one of their only wins away from the Pirelli Stadium this season.

The victory was only one of four victories the newly promoted side has won away from home all season and demonstrated some of the difficulties Queens Park Rangers have faced at Loftus Road.

Significantly, at the time, it dragged Queens Park Rangers deep into the relegation dogfight which after such a bright start wasn't expected at all.

Even though Queens Park Rangers have recovered from the defeat and made distance between themselves and Burton Albion, it was another demoralising defeat for the West London side.

Although it was not Queens Park Rangers' heaviest defeat, it was another poor performance and disappointing result that is one of Queens Park Rangers' biggest lows this season.
