After relegation from the Premier League, Norwich City have faced a season of transition and adaptation as they acclimatise back to life in the Sky Bet Championship.

After a disappointing draw at home to bitter rivals Ipswich Town in their local derby, Norwich City currently sit 8th in the Sky Bet Championship with a six point gap to close on the play-off positions - although they face competition from Fulham, Preston and Barnsley for sixth place, which is currently occupied by Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite suffering relegation from the Premier League, Norwich City fans would have been hoping their side could push on and challenge for automatic promotion.

However, Norwich City have faced turbulence and adversity both on and off the field as the team have continuously under-performed so far this season.

Despite having the resources to truly compete and making a number of high-profile signings, Norwich City fans have suffered from a rollercoaster ride so far.

In a long arduous marathon that the Championship is, there have been a number of highs and lows for the Canaries, as expected.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen highlights two of Norwich's biggest highs and lows from the season so far.

High - Early season form

After dropping down from the Premier League, Alex Neil did well to keep the majority of his squad together as well as adding some big signings to bolster Norwich's squad even further.

It appeared to be paying off as Norwich City won eight of their first eleven games to put them in an extremely healthy position.

Alongside Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United, Norwich City were looking the favourites to push for the automatic promotion spots.

The early season form gave Norwich City fans plenty to cheer about and there was optimism and momentum driving the Canaries forward.

Norwich were sat atop the Championship table until mid-October.

At that point, it appeared that maintaining this form would see Norwich City bounce straight back up to the Premier League, as the season has worn on, this early season form was one of the biggest highs of the season so far.

High - Vote of confidence for Alex Neil

After a difficult first half of the season which saw Norwich City languishing in the bottom half of the table, many expected Alex Neil's time as Norwich City manager to be up.

The former Hamilton Academical manager had led Norwich City to promotion to the Premier League but he had also overseen the team get relegated from the Premier League and struggle in the Championship.

After Norwich City offered Alex Neil the vote of confidence, some saw it as an ominous sign that Alex Neil was on the verge of leaving despite having the support of the board.

However, the board stayed true to their word and remained loyal to Alex Neil which turned out to be the correct decision as Alex Neil managed to turn Norwich City's fortunes around.

Very rarely would a board decision be seen as one of the biggest highs for any club within a season, however, the decision deserves plaudits as they stuck to their guns under intense scrutiny and it appears to have paid off.

Low - The heavy loss at Brighton

The heavy defeat at the AMEX saw Norwich City blown away by a far superior Brighton & Hove Albion side as the Seagulls scored 5 in a 5-0 drubbing of Alex Neil's side.

A Glenn Murray hat-trick and goals from Lewis Dunk and Anthony Knockaert were enough to humiliate Alex Neil's side.

Not only was the scoreline and the manner of the defeat extremely humiliating, the implications of the defeat were particularly harrowing.

Devoid of confidence, the defeat at Brighton was part of a five-match losing streak which severely damaged Norwich City's hopes of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The defeat also had significant symbolic relevance as it showed just how far away Norwich City were from competing for automatic promotion.

Norwich City's heaviest defeat of the season against what was expected to be a direct promotion rival was one of Norwich City's biggest lows so far this season.

Low -  The defeat to Burton Albion

Norwich City's most recent defeat away at the Pirelli Stadium was another disappointing result for Alex Neil and Norwich to stomach.

After a rejuvenation which saw Norwich City unbeaten in six games (which included emphatic wins over Wolves and Nottingham Forest and a respectable draw against Newcastle United), it was much anticipated that the run would continue with a victory over Burton Albion.

However, the Brewers have a particularly strong home record and they stopped any momentum Norwich City had in their tracks as goals from Michael Kightly and Cauley Woodrow proved to be enough to secure the historic victory.

In what has been a particularly poor season for Norwich City so far, the defeat to Burton Albion was their twelfth of the season so far.

The significance of the defeat was that it severely hindered Norwich City's chances of catching up with Sheffield Wednesday to break into the play-off places.

The defeat was one of the biggest lows for Norwich City this season as it might end up being seen as the moment that Norwich City's hopes of a late play-off push was put to the sword if they narrowly miss out on the top six.
