The English Football League is full of exciting young players.

Some are plying their trade in the first-team, whilst some are feeling their way into senior football. Others, are waiting in the wings, ripping it up for the under-23s and biding their time.

Every year, more and more youngsters emerge and light up the Championship, League One and League Two, with many earning themselves a Premier League move before long.

Over the years, so many EFL youngsters have gone on to become England internationals, with Dele Alli, Harry Maguire, Jordan Pickford and John Stones all players who have shone at a World Cup after raising through the Football League.

Now, it is no different. There is a sea of talent on show in the Championship and below.

Here, we look to identify 18 that you’ve just got to know about…

The Stoke centre-back is a real talent and had Manchester United sniffing around him over the course of the summer transfer window.

That tells you plenty about how good Collins is.

He’s made appearances in the Championship and League Cup so far this season, and at 18, is producing performances above his years.

We will see him in the Premier League one day.

Matheson is someone you will probably of heard about.

The teenager is an incredibly talented footballer with a massive future in the game.

He scored in Rochdale’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in late September, announcing his talents on the biggest stage.

Matheson made his debut at such a young age and will be flying through the divisions in the coming years.

The 18-year-old stands out because of his hair, but he’s also a very talented midfielder currently plying his trade with the Robins.

The fans down there absolutely love him and the French youngster has an opportunity to make a splash in English football.

Lee Johnson will nurture his talent in the coming years, but it’d be no surprise to see him on a bigger stage.

Bellingham has made such an impact with Birmingham City this season, with Pep Clotet really getting him going in the Championship.

Liverpool have an apparent interest, but Birmingham looks like the best place for his development at the moment.

He’s scored goals and is getting game time, which is all you can ask as a teenager.

Liverpool maybe in the future, but now, the Blues are making him tick.

The 21-year-old is making a real splash with Crewe in the EFL, scoring goals and creating them.

In 2018/19, he scored once and assisted four times, but the midfielder is already building on those numbers.

The youngster struck the back of the net four times in the opening 10 games of the League Two season, as well as adding an assist.

You get the feeling he’s one to watch in the coming months.

The 17-year-old already has his first Championship goal and is making a splash under Paul Cook at Wigan.

It’s never easy for a youngster in a side that is supposed to struggle in the Championship, but Gelhardt is taking it all in his stride.

Bigger things might be on the horizon – given the forward’s start to life in the first-team – and he’s certainly someone to watch out for heading into 2020.

Ferguson is producing assured defensive displays, which is matched by energetic attacking performances.

Capable on either the left or right of defence, he looks to have a big future in the game.

West Brom will want him committed long-term, but if they don’t win promotion, he might make the step up to the Premier League without them.

If you haven’t heard of Eze, you’ve been living under a rock.

The QPR playmaker has been on the radar for some time now, but Mark Warburton is getting the best out of him at Loftus Road.

He’s a good build, so doesn’t get knocked about, but he’s very light on his feet, giving him the ability to glide past defenders.

Another who will get a shot at the Premier League, it’s a matter of when, not if.

The 18-year-old already has first-team experience under his belt at Forest, despite his age.

Forest have produced some good players over the years, but they’ve not really kicked on in the first-team – Ben Brereton for example.

However, you sense it’ll be different with Johnson given his recent new deal.

Once he’s in the first-team on a regular basis, he will be one to watch.

Middlesbrough produce good players too – they always have.

Recently, Ben Gibson and Dael Fry are two centre-backs to pass through their academy, now, Wood is the latest.

The 17-year-old has a massive future ahead of him and a great mentor in Jonathan Woodgate.

If Wood can become half the player of the current Boro boss, he will have an outstanding career.

Ryan Sessegnon was the brother getting all the headlines, but now Steven is making waves with Fulham in the Championship.

Perhaps Scott Parker was always going to be the man to get the full-back firing on a regular basis.

He’s one to watch, and I’m sure, with Ryan now in the Premier League, he will be fast-tracked there if he continues to impress.

The 21-year-old is thriving alongside Eze at QPR, with the pair offering Warburton some real class at the moment.

Between them, they create and score chances, giving Championship defences so much to think about.

Warburton is getting the best out of Chair at the moment, but a talent like this is there to attract interest from higher.

Watch out for Chair’s name in the coming transfer windows.

Struijk is a highly-rated Dutch defender currently featuring in Leeds’ under-23s.

The towering centre-back is on the brink of first-team football with Leeds, who secured his long-term future not that long ago.

He was born the day before Matthijs de Ligt and arrived at Leeds from Ajax.

The fact they crossed paths once upon a time means the 20-year-old is one to watch.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been picked up by Preston at an early age.

He was impressive for Coventry last season scoring three goals and assisting three more, earning himself a chance in the Championship.

If his natural progression stays true, he will be in the Premier League before long.

It’s hard to know too much about Pye, as he’s been watched, but there’s plenty of noise about this young man.

Manchester United and Arsenal hold a transfer interest in him, which speaks volumes.

It might not be until the mid-20s when we see Pye on a bigger stage, but remember his name.

The 17-year-old scored one goal in 10 appearances last season in League One, and he’s already broken his duck for the current campaign.

He might be some distance off the Premier League, but the Championship is never too far away from a player like Kelman.

If he keeps progressing, the forward will get a shot at a higher level, then, who knows what might happen.

Bogle is such a talented young full-back.

At Derby last season, he topped the assist charts from defence, showing just how useful he can be as a modern-day full-back.

Of course, Bogle has weaknesses defensively, but there’s so much to like about him already.

He won’t be far away from the Premier League, especially if he repeats last season’s form.

The midfielder is a real classy player, who sits in-front of the back-four and dictates play.

He’s already made his Leeds United debut this season, and he’s so highly-rated, he’s been fast-tracked into the Northern Ireland squad, who he has also debuted for this campaign.

That tells us all you need to know about his talent, which will be on show regularly in the Championship, with Marcelo Bielsa willing to promote youth.
