Leeds United will have to start planning for life in the Championship next season after their dramatic defeat at home to Derby in the week which ended their Premier League dream.

Whilst that will take a long time to get over, the reality is that there are plenty of positive signs for the Yorkshire club.

Obviously, keeping Marcelo Bielsa is a priority as he is vital to ensuring Leeds can be celebrating promotion next year, whilst it's also clear that they need new players.

That usually means splashing the cash but as any Leeds fan who saw Doncaster play at Charlton last night knows they have one very talented player on their books who is ready to feature - Mallik Wilks.

The 20-year-old has spent the season on loan at Rovers in League One and his performances were extremely impressive. He managed 14 goals from out wide and it's clear that he has a lot of talent.

That was evident at The Valley, where his pace and power was too much for the Addicks to handle at times, particularly the third goal for Doncaster, where he breezed past his opponent before setting up John Marquis for the easiest of finishes.

The issue for Wilks is that he doesn't do that on a regular basis. Even last night he was frustrating in his decision making and seemed reluctant to continuously run at the full-back even though he clearly had too much for him.

But, that's understandable given his age and where he's at in his career.

So, there should be an excitement at what Wilks can do and more importantly what he could be after some guidance from Bielsa.

The Argentinian is renowned for improving players and it's clear to see in 12 months just how much the current crop of Whites players have grown and Wilks needs to be given a chance to do the same.

His spell at Doncaster has shown he has plenty of ability and his explosive style seems ideally suited to the way that Leeds play.

Changes will have to be made at Elland Road over the coming months and Bielsa may need convincing to stay around. However, if he does, it's going to be an exciting time for Leeds once again and Wilks could be a key man after proving he is ready to step up.
