It has not shaped out to be the transfer window Birmingham fans were hoping for, and despite being backed by big money, they have struggled to bring in big names.

Harry Redknapp took charge of the Blues after the departure of ill-fated appointment Gianfranco Zola, whose disastrous spell at the club nearly saw them relegated from the Championship.

He set his sights on putting the club back into the play off race this summer, and made moves for a number of high profile players such as John Terry and Henry Onyekuru.

They have ended up with David Stockdale, Marc Roberts and Chiek N'Doye, all of whom are decent signings, but it isn't anywhere near the level that was expected at the start of the window.

One player they should move for is Brighton promotion winner Jiri Skalak, who finished second with the Seagulls last season and has spent a year and a half at the club.

He looks set to be pushed down the pecking order at the club, however, with winger Ales Mateju set to join the club to play second fiddle to Anthony Knockaert and Solly March.

Skalak - valued at £1.28m on Transfermarkt - struggled to find his way into the Albion side of last season anyway, but has shown flashes of his quality with the club during his time there, and perhaps only needs game time.

With the exit of Kerim Frei in mind, Birmingham could use a new winger and Skalak is a great player to take a punt on. With some first team football in hand, he could become a seriously strong Championship winger.
