There's hope that the good times are on their way back to Birmingham City with Harry Redknapp now at the helm at St Andrews.

The former Pompey boss signed a one year deal in the Midlands after his final-day heroics that saw the Blues stay up with a 1-0 win over Bristol City and he's quickly become a fan favourite with the club's supporters.

But it's clear that following the mess that has been left behind by Gianfranco Zola, there's plenty of work that still needs to be done in the Midlands to ensure the club are stable next time around.

And there's one man we at the FLW think would be a cracking first addition for Harry Redknapp and the Blues, and that's Reading's £1.28million-rated winger Garath McCleary.

The Royals favourite has been at the Madjeski for five years now and has become popular amongst supporters for his skill, pace and goalscoring.

Whilst he's never quite made the step up to the Premier League, if the Royals aren't successful in the play-off final next week, that could potential spell the end to his spell in London.

But for Birmingham City, these are more exciting times that have seen a little bit of positivity begin to flow around St Andrews. McCleary is now 30-years-old and his time to shine and be the best might have been and gone.

But right now, he's a player that knows this level well, works hard and arguably most importantly, is consistent.

Blues need that in abundance right now and bringing in McCleary could be a great start to a summer of rebuilding.

Blues fans, would you be happy to see a player like McCleary join the club? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!!
