Aston Villa were a side that had been tipped to return straight to the Premier League last season, but it really didn’t happen for Steve Bruce and his players.

After a horrendous start under former boss Roberto Di Matteo, the club turned to former Birmingham City boss Bruce, who they thought held the keys to a quicker return to the promised land.

But he too struggled to turn fortunes around in the Midlands, and a below-average mid-table finish certainly won’t cut it again next season.

But there’s one player we at the FootballLeagueWorld would love to see Villa move for this season, and that’s Reading winger Garath McCleary who, for a long time now, has been one of the key players down at the Madejski Stadium.

The wideman brings pace, a real goal-scoring ability and endeavour to the flank for the Royals, but after the disappointment of losing a pretty poor play-off final in May, he might be a man that is seeking pastures new.

For the time being, Villa need players that are renowned at this level as being able to make an impact, and for manager Bruce, bringing in names like the £1.28 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) McCleary is of massive importance.

He knows this level well, has starred consistently for the Royals, and knows what it takes to lead a genuine play-off push - he has all the ingredients to succeed at Villa Park.

This is a move that would really work out for Bruce and Villa.
