According to reports from The Sun, Derby County are interested in signing Chelsea youngster Tariq Uwakwe on loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge, and is tipped to join the likes of Reece James, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham in the first-team setup next season.
The midfielder – who signed a new three-year deal with the Blues last season – has been a regular for Chelsea’s under-23 side this term, helping them climb to the top of the Premier League 2 table.
But in order to aid his development even further, Uwakwe could be set to depart Stamford Bridge on loan this month – and Frank Lampard could also be set to help out his former club.
It is claimed that Derby are interested in taking Uwakwe on loan until the end of the campaign, as Phillip Cocu prepares to bolster his squad with fresh faces ahead of the second-half of the season.
Can you get 15 out of 15 on this Derby quiz?
Derby are obviously no strangers to loaning players from Chelsea, having taken Mason Mount and Tomori under their wing under the management of Lampard last term.
The Rams sit 17th in the Sky Bet Championship table and a huge eight points off the play-off spots, and are seemingly keen to add to their midfield this month despite the arrival of Wayne Rooney.
Here, we take a look at what Derby fans have made of this speculation…
Left footed winger for us maybe 👀👀🤷🏽♂️

We’re linked with Uwakwe, a young midfielder. We already have a handful of midfielders, it’s our strongest department by far, and surely he’d only be blocking the path of one of our own academy products? Other positions are surely much higher priority? #dcfc

Agreed, unless they think he'll make a winger. Also would rather see Hector-Ingram get a chance before we go for another striker… defence has to be where we need strengthening, surely?

More than happy to sign Tariq Uwakwe as long as he is seen as a wide player.
As a centre mid, I wouldn’t want him as we have both too many in that position and need to prioritise others, plus, it stunts the youth development of Knight, Sibley and Bird. #DCFC

i’ll happily take that he looks very promising

do we need another CM? I’d have thought CB/RM/LM would be priority for us this January.
