Chris Hughton defended his decision to make only one sub for Nottingham Forest in their defeat to Barnsley at the weekend.

Forest fell to their sixth defeat of the campaign at Oakwell, with goals from Callum Styles and Cauley Woodrow securing another win for Valerien Ismael's side.

Styles fired in a rocket on 85 minutes, before Woodrow bundled home from close-range moments later to secure the three points for the hosts.

Barnsley made all five subs available to them in the second-half, freshening things up as they eventually went and found two late goals.

Forest, meanwhile, were to make only one sub throughout - Luke Freeman replacing Miguel Angel Guerrero on 73 minutes.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live after the game, Chris Hughton said: "It was because I was generally happy with the performance.

“You’ve never got complete control of a game, because you’re up against very good teams.

“But in terms of my games so far, we were as much in control against Barnsley as we have been in any other game.

“For me, there wasn't the necessity. Anthony (Knockaert) looked like he could produce something, and I thought Joe (Lolley) did okay.

"Lyle (Taylor), along with Guerrero, hasn't played too many 90 minutes. I thought he just got to the stage where, with his ball retention, he was just losing it a little bit.

"But overall, I thought he played well.”
