Mick McCarthy’s relationship with Ipswich Town’s supporters has been something of a concern recently, with the atmosphere at Portman Road not the best.

Ipswich are drifting towards a mid-table finish in the Sky Bet Championship under McCarthy this season, with there expected to be a change in the Portman Road dugout when the summer comes around.

Alan Nixon has taken to his personal Twitter account to share an update on Ipswich’s managerial situation, confirming that Steve McClaren currently tops the club’s wanted list, as they begin to plan for life beyond McCarthy.

McClaren has a wealth of experience, with the 56-year-old managing a host of English clubs, as well as taking charge of the national side for a short period.

His most previously spell in the Championship came with Derby County and was ended 12 months ago, with the Rams struggling to battle their way into the race for the play-offs.

Following the news that Ipswich were eyeing a move for McClaren, there was plenty of reaction on Twitter.

Here is the best of it…
