Despite not even playing a single minute of football over the course of the weekend, it has been a fairly hectic few days for all concerned with Stoke City.

The Potters parted company with manager Nathan Jones on Friday afternoon, after the Welshman won only six out of 38 games in charge since arriving from Luton Town last season.

One name that has been heavily linked with the vacant managerial role at the bet365 Stadium is Preston North End boss Alex Neil, and at one point, he was as good as appointed according to talkSPORT.

But Preston quickly moved to squash those claims, first posting a club statement saying that they have reported Stoke for an illegal approach for their manager.

Another statement followed shortly after, with Neil reiterating his commitment to the club - he did the same on Sunday afternoon, speaking to Sky Sports before his side's 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic at The Valley.
