Portsmouth striker John Marquis has issued an interesting verdict on manager Kenny Jackett’s tactical approach following the south-coast side’s 1-0 victory over Lincoln on Tuesday.
Marquis scored the winning goal in the 28th minute against the Imps as he helped his side secure their fourth league win of the season after the Fratton Park outfit’s difficult start to the campaign.
Jackett’s side currently find themselves sitting 16th in the table after playing 12 matches, but Pompey would have been hoping to be much higher-placed at this stage following their promotion push last term.
Marquis, who was signed from Doncaster over the summer, has now issued his verdict on Pompey’s mentality heading into matches by claiming Jackett’s playing style differs to that of other managers he has worked under.
BBC reporter Andrew Moon shared Marquis’ comments via his Twitter account on Thursday afternoon:
Interesting from John Marquis today..
"I've played in teams recently where it's been the mentality of we'll score more than them & if we concede 3 we'll hope we score 4, that's not really the way we play here. Whether that's a good thing or not is for others to judge" #Pompey

Is Kenny Jackett the right man to take Portsmouth forward?
Plenty of Portsmouth supporters responded to Marquis’ assessment of Jackett’s mentality, with many of them describing it as an intriguing statement to come from within the camp, while some have also labelled it as a sign of the striker’s frustrations.

Wow …. That's a very interesting statement. You could certainly take that as a dig at tactics. Certainly not I'm 100% behind manager comment.

Pretty much a reflection of what many Pompey fans have been saying for a couple of weeks then… As you saying, an interesting comment from within the camp though

Only works with a good defence! And then it’s not really the style most Pompey fans want to see.

He’s definitely team #jackettout

You could tell he was frustrated Tuesday, he is doing his absolute best but just not used to these archaic tactics
