Reading have confirmed the departure of Rob Dickie, who has joined League 1 outfit Oxford United for an undisclosed fee, according to the club's official website.

The 22-year-old versatile defender did not complete a full match for the club but has enjoyed loan spells with Cheltenham Town and Basingstoke as well as spending the first half of this season in League 2 with Lincoln City.

Dickie will be immediately available to Oxford manager Pep Clotet for the weekend's League One clash with Blackpool.

Reading fans reacted the news disappointedly, with many fans hoping that he would have been given a chance in the first team at the Madejski stadium.

The other overriding reaction was that League 1 will be where the entire Reading squad will be playing their football next season after the Royals lost 2-0 at home to Birmingham City on Tuesday night.
