Aston Villa were unable to make the most of their late January transfer business after a dismal 3-0 defeat away at Brentford in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Steve Bruce handed debuts to two of his new signings as Birkir Bjarnason and Conor Hourihane found themselves in the starting line-up, meanwhile James Bree featured on the bench.

Jacob Bedeau, arrived on deadline day, was unable to get the paperwork done in time to travel to London.

Although Brentford were without star striker Scott Hogan as the 24-year-old was completing a medical ahead of a proposed move to their opposition.

The Bees had a brilliant first-half with Lasse Vibe and Nico Yennaris both hitting the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes, and gave themselves a further advantage when the former nicked a second after the interval.

Aston Villa's defeat means they drop to 14th in the Championship and the hosts climb above them by one spot.

Brentford fans would have been delighted with the result, but supporters of the visitors might not be so much - here's how both sets of fans reacted on Twitter....
