‘That must be a first’ – Middlesbrough fans react to club’s positive announcement



Saturday was a damaging afternoon for Middlesbrough, who saw their hopes of recording a top-six finish dashed by Norwich City, who picked up three points at Carrow Road thanks to a 1-0 victory.  

Tom Trybull’s first-half goal was enough to secure the victory for the Canaries, which left Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough facing an uphill battle to break back into the top-six, with a six-point gap opening up.

Ninth placed Boro were also dealt the blow of losing Rudy Gestede to suspension, after the 29-year-old striker was dismissed for a lunging tackle on Grant Hanley in the 28th minute.

Gestede was set to serve a three-match suspension, which would’ve ruled him out of the weekend’s clash with Reading, as well as fixtures against Cardiff City and Hull City.

However, after Boro lodged an appeal to the FA that suspension has been overturned, with Gestede now available for Saturday’s visit of Reading in the Championship.
