‘That might shut his critics up for a day’ – Many Derby fans excited as player impresses on international stage

Jason Knight played a starring role for the Republic of Ireland as they beat Andorra 4-1 yesterday, which has excited many Derby County fans.

The 20-year-old was a mainstay in the Rams side last season, featuring 45 times in all competitions, but was unable to contribute as much in the final third as he did in 2019/20.

Andorra took a shock lead just after the break but a brace from Troy Parrott put them 2-1 up before Knight took the game away from their hosts completely.

The Derby man ghosted in to convert Daryl Horgan’s cross and score his first international goal in the 83rd minute before repaying the favour by whipping a dangerous ball in for his compatriot to head home not long after.

The Rams had a difficult 2020/21 campaign and only narrowly avoided relegation on the final day but will be hoping for better fortunes next term and to see their young players take centre stage once again.

21 things every Derby County fan should know about their club, so can you score 100% on this?

How many years ago was the club formed?

Knight looks like a prime candidate to do just that and his latest performance on the international stage certainly seems to have excited the Pride Park faithful, with many fans taking to Twitter to share their thoughts…
