The climax of the Championship season is virtually upon us, with Aston Villa confirmed in a play-off spot after a run of 10 straight wins that has seen Dean Smith's side climb up to fifth in the table having amassed 75 points.

Despite the small matter of the play-offs to concentrate on, Smith cannot fail to have half-an-eye on the summer transfer window and may be looking to hijack the potential deal that would see Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay move to Wigan Athletic as reported by Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Smith is a fan of Lindsay, as reported by Alan Nixon on Twitter back in February, so should Villa push hard to beat Wigan to Lindsay's signature?

We discuss........

Toby Wilding

"You feel they would be able to beat Wigan to him should they want to.

"Villa are in a much more attractive position than Wigan right now for a player, with the two sides at opposite ends of the Championship table.

"Whether this is a deal Villa need however, may well depend on the future of the on loan Tyrone Mings, who has been impressive for the club i that position this season."

Gary Hutchinson

“That depends on next season.

“If they’re in the Premier League, no. It would be a step too far.

“If they stay down, he’d be a fine signing for them.

“He’s got bags of ability and potential and has been superb for Barnsley this season.”

Louie Chandler

"It depends how hard.

"He is certainly someone Villa should look to sign if they are not promoted this season but they need to be careful.

"If they do not go up, chances are they will be in a precarious financial position so splashing out a large lump could be hugely damaging to them."
