It has been a mixed bag for Aston Villa since the closing of the January transfer window, with a return of two draws and one defeat all Dean Smith has to show for his last three outings in the Championship.

Though Smith addressed some defensive frailties at Villa Park in January, he was certainly unsuccessful with a number of players on his shopping list.

So overall will Smith have any January regrets?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"I don't think so.

"I imagine that Rico Henry was high on his list but at the same time they would probably be happy to wait until the summer when his price has dropped.

"Smith is a longer-term project at Villa and the summer window was always going to be more important."

Gary Hutchinson

“He might have an October one; leaving Brentford.

“His business in January wasn’t great. Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause are decent lads, but he wanted a midfielder and didn’t get it.

“In fairness, they’ve got a good squad. They just need to start proving it.”

Jay Taylor

“I think not adding another attack-minded player and a wide man should be his regret.

“Grealish’s injury has highlighted the fact Villa are light in that area and bringing in a new face with an attacking attitude would have been a positive.

“Missing out on Leroy Fer only to get Tom Carroll was a weird one, and he would have been perfect for this Villa side.

"That could come back to haunt him."
