Blackburn Rovers have confirmed defender Charlie Mulgrew has completed a season-long loan switch to fellow Championship side Wigan Athletic.

The Rovers captain saw his move to the DW Stadium confirmed on Friday morning after it was confirmed the paperwork was completed in time before Thursday's 5pm transfer deadline.

Mulgrew arrived at Ewood Park from Celtic in 2016 and the Scotland international has gone on to make 108 appearances for the club, scoring an impressive 27 goals in the process.

The defender captained the side in Blackburn's opening day defeat to newly promoted Charlton Athletic, but he has been in and out of the side in recent times and lost his place for the final six matches of last term.
