Defender Josh Earl has returned to parent club Preston North End following Bolton Wanderers' decision not to extend his loan spell.

The 21-year-old made eleven appearances for the Trotters since joining the club over the summer but has failed in securing a longer stay at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Despite missing nine games through an ankle injury at the start of the season, it appeared that Earl did impress the Bolton faithful during his time at the club.

After returning from injury the defender featured in eight of Bolton's following 10 fixtures including their 4-3 defeat to Burton Albion on New Year's Day.

Following the club's confirmation that Earl was return to his parent club, the defender took to his own personal Twitter account to post a message of farewell to the club and the supporters.

Judging from Earl's message he clearly has developed a fondness for the club over the last few months and took time to wish the club well for the future.

Here we take a look at some of the best responses to the defender's heartfelt farewell...
