Former Stoke City striker Jonathan Walters has announced that he is retiring from football as a result of a long running Achilles problem.
The 35-year-old, who had made just three appearances on loan at Ipswich this season while on loan from Premier League side Burnley - who he joined from Stoke in 2017 - announced the news on Twitter, joking that his Achilles heel had been his Achilles heel.
As well as making 54 appearances and scoring 14 goals for the Republic of Ireland national side, Walters appeared for ten different clubs throughout his career, but it was at Stoke where his presence was perhaps most felt.
In seven seasons at the bet365, Walters made 271 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 62 times, a tally that accounts for over half of his club career goals, and almost of half of his club career appearances.
