Sunderland confirmed today that left-back Bryan Oviedo has left the club after two-and-a-half years to rejoin FC Copenhagen.

The 29-year-old arrived on Wearside in January 2017 and the Black Cats were relegated to the Championship months later.

Despite that, Oviedo stuck with Sunderland in the Championship and did so once again as they suffered another drop to League One. He featured in 26 games as they reached the play-off final last season.

However, with the Costa Rica international on big wages a summer move seemed likely and a return to the Danish champions was announced earlier.

Following that, Oviedo took to Twitter to send a message to the fans, explaining how he enjoyed his time with the club despite their struggles.

"Thank you @SunderlandAFC for everything, it has been nothing but a great adventure. Sunderland will always be more than a football team it will always be like family to me! #OviedoBaby"

And, it's fair to say the fans appreciated his comments and were grateful for his loyalty over the years.
