Blackpool kept their play-off dream alive this weekend with a resounding 4-1 victory away at ailing Bradford City.

It gave current boss Terry McPhillips a chance to pit his wits against his former employer Gary Bowyer, who left the Seasiders earlier in the season.

The apprentice quickly became the master as his side put in a dominant display to move up to eighth, just two points behind Peterborough United in sixth.

McPhillips, buoyed by the return of supporters to Bloomfield Road recently, now believes his side are capable of crashing the play-off party and challenged his players to keep their performance levels high.

“If we can keep producing these performances that certainly gives us a chance of doing something,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.

“We’ve just said to the players we’ve got to take this performance into next week, it’s as simple as that. No one knows what is around the corner. I never thought I’d be standing here talking to you taking my team against Gary’s team.

“Football is a wonderful game, anything can happen. That’s the standard and that’s what we’ve got to reach now between now and the end of the season.”

McPhillips' side have been lifted recently as Owen Oyston was ousted from the club, meaning the boycotting fans have returned.

They'll get to see their team up against struggling Plymouth next weekend, hoping for three more points in an unlikely play-off assault.

The Verdict

It might seem to be a step too far, but they're one of four teams challenging for that final play-off spot. Peterborough hold the advantage, but two points separate them, Blackpool, Coventry and Doncaster.

Posh visit Bloomfield Road in three weeks time, meaning that McPhillips' side have their fate in their own hands.
