Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips has admitted that new signings are close, but that as of yet nobody has put pen to paper to confirm the planned switches.

As reported by the Blackpool Gazette, McPhillips is working hard behind the scenes to add to his squad following their impressive outing last season.

They threatened to break into the top six with a late run and showed lots of promise on the field, as well as development off it.

Owen Oyston was ousted from the club, a move which saw a swell of supporters return to Bloomfield Road after a self-imposed exile.

The club are now pointing in the right direction and McPhillips confirmed he's hoping to add new faces to the side in the coming weeks.

He was asked if he had any signings close, to which he replied; “Yes but what I’ve found is that until it’s signed on the dotted line then it’s never done.

“That’s it, we’ve got some plates spinning but for sure it can all come crashing down. We have got a few in the pipeline but we’ll see."

McPhillips went on to outline the positions he's looking to fill, with Solihull Moors striker Adi Yussuf the only summer signing so far.

“We’ve got some spaces left up front and we’ve certainly got some spaces left at centre-half,” McPhillips admitted.

“They’re the priorities but we’re just looking for good players in general. You are always wary you might lose one or two before the season starts and we have to be mindful of that and be ready to get replacements.

“You’re competing against many others and even teams in the division below and spending quite a lot of money now."

The Verdict

It's a tough market and there is an awful lot of time to go before the new season starts. There is a clamour from supporters these days for quick news, but people's futures are at stake and it's not as easy to secure a new face as some might think.

Blackpool will be a big draw for players, but they'll be more limited in terms of budget than some of their play-off rivals. That means McPhillips might have to be patient, as will the supporters.
