Brentford missed the chance to break into the top-half of the Championship at the weekend, losing 1-0 to the league’s form team Huddersfield Town.

It was the battle of the Championship’s two high-flyers on Saturday - Huddersfield with 11 points from five going into the game at Griffin Park, and Brentford ten.

A fixture which promised to be full of goals and drama was settled by the odd one from Karlan Grant in the second-half, and saw Brentford’s three-game winning streak brought to an end.

Thomas Frank had guided the Bees to a dismal start to the season and going into last month’s international break, his future at the club was up in the air with his side in 17th.

But three consecutive wins followed the break and the last of which coming against their West London rivals QPR, where Brentford really asserted their attacking prowess at Championship level, setting them up to go on a four-long winning streak in the league for the first time in as many years.

With Danny Cowley’s Terriers pulling themselves further away from the drop zone, Brentford must settle for 13th - a win could've seen them go as high as 7th in the Championship.

The performance at Griffin Park on Saturday was not of the standard that Brentford had set themselves in their last three outings, but the defeat could prove a ‘blessing in disguise’ for Frank.

Sure, four wins on the bounce would’ve been an accolade in itself for Frank and Brentford, but their form was always going to come to an end and the fact that it did in such circumstances on Saturday, will give Frank a timely reminder of the Championship’s unpredictability, and that Brentford still have a long old way to go to reach the end goal of top-flight football.

This mid-season turnaround at Brentford has been credit to Frank, who's side are reinstating that typical 'Brentford brand of football' that Warburton founded prior.

Perhaps a play-off push is out of Brentford's reach this season, but that's ultimately the goal for any team in the division and they'll want to make a realistic push for the Premier League at some point.

Frank has a rebuilding job underway at Griffin Park - a horde of Scandinavian players have arrived at the club as the manager looks to set enticing footballing standard at the club. Saturday's defeat will keep Brentford grounded, and on their journey to eventual top-flight football.
