James Vaughan completed his move from Sunderland to Wigan Athletic on Friday afternoon, ending a brief stay at the Stadium of Light and returning to League One, where he has previously flourished.

The 29-year-old’s departure has left Chris Coleman frantically looking for striking reinforcements, as he aims to save Sunderland from back-to-back relegations.

With Lewis Grabban no longer around, has Coleman made a mistake by selling Vaughan?

With no back-up plan absolutely.

I'd have thought they'd have got someone in or all but signed before Vaughan left but that hasn't been the case.

It's poor organisation and one that could cost them dearly.

Sam Preston

He's made a massive error.

Coleman is getting a free ride so far because there is a broad acceptance that he has inherited a shambolic situation and he is making the best of it.

However, letting your only experienced striker leave and move down a league is absolutely terrible business and surely preventable given that Vaughan only signed for the club in the summer.

He is now desperate for an experienced striker.

Chris Gallagher

Not at all, but the timing was strange.

Despite his awful goal record, Vaughan shouldn't have been sold until a replacement was in.

Sunderland looked woeful going forward against Cardiff and he would've done a job.

Overall though, he isn't the man to keep them up, just like the rest of the current options.
